About us


The years of experience and the competences acquired by the European Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies in the first aid education field led to create in 1991 the First Aid Education European Network.

This European Network consists of first aid education experts who coordinate the training and who participate in the first aid practices decision process within their respective National Society.

The First Aid Education European Network’s objectives are to:

- encourage the dissemination of first aid,

- share knowledge and experiences,

- support the implementation of high quality first aid programmes in Europe,

- champion the harmonisation of first aid techniques,

- create common methods and tools.

The European Reference Centre for First Aid Education was created on 1st October 1996 on the initiative of the First Aid Education European Network. Its main mission is to facilitate and improve the communication, coordination and cooperation between the European Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies for the activities linked to first aid. The European Reference Centre for First Aid Education is at the service of the European Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies since its creation in 1996.

Its main mission can be detailed with the following objectives:

- participate in the development of first aid training in accordance with the Movement’s directions and the international scientific guidelines,

- support the Network’s activities,

- make latest first aid information and practices available,

- centralize and spread good practices,

- increase National Societies’ capacities by creating tools,

- assist the National Societies in their efforts to further develop training,

- reinforce exchanges and common initiatives,

- monitor the evolution of domains linked to first aid.
